Markbass Kilimanjaro 4 Richard Bona Signature Bass Natural

The Kilimanjaro bass is the result of a strong collaboration between Richard Bona and Marco De Virgiliis who share one guiding principle - never compromise.

Richard is one the most appreciated and respected musicians worldwide and from the very beginning on this project and Marco has always understood that he would only put his name (and his fingers as well!) on an instrument that delivers the highest quality standard. The team at Markbass have used all their experience to create an instrument satisfying the highest manufacturing standards for guitar, while delivering that great instrument at very competitive price.

Design
It hasn’t been easy designing such an attractive new instrument, that is also really ergonomically laid out and balanced even though it’s quite far from a standard design any bass player is familiar with. The Kilimanjaro has been refined and imrpoved continuously until Richard amd Marco were 100% satisfied with the instrument.

Starting from the body shape with the smoothed back for those playing while seated, then moving to the lower cutaway designed to offer maximum access to the highest fret, then to the ultra refinished and comfortable neck that facilitates a super low action, and the innovative headstock designed with Richard, using a single piece neck and headstock with a 7° angle that does away with the need for any string retainers.

Woods
Body: Richard chose a two piece swamp ash body with AAAA solid flame maple top and binding line, to ennhance its beauty, while mirroring the same maple and binding on the matching headstock. The control cavity cover is also made from swamp ash.

Neck: Quarter cut Canadian maple, with a dual action, double graphite truss rod for maximum stability, adjustable on the headstock.

Fretboard: Flame maple, 34" scale, 24 ultra carefully refinished frets and black GraphTech nut.

Hardware
Hipshot-1/2” Ultralite USA Black machine heads, super light and ultra precise with a 20:1 ratio for fast and perfect tuning.

Hipshot KickAss Black bridge with brass saddles and adjustable strings distance from 17.7 mm to 20 mm, allowing you to customize the space between strings.

Pickups
The Kilimanjaro features Bartolini MK4CBC(4string) and MK5CBC(5 string) neck and bridge pickups, perfectly matched to the Markbass electronics to provide really focused and dynamic tone.

Electronics
All Marco and Markbasss experience on bass TONE has been distilled into this preamp's outstanding electronics. Simple, intuitive and effective even on extreme settings. Controls are VOLUME/VOLUME/TONE (with an active/passive switch on Tone) providing far greater pickup blending capability than regular blend controls, as well as active BASS/MID/TREBLE…so you'll never have to worry about blown out bottom end or harsh tops. The frequency and bandwith values chosen for the preamp filters delicver a wide range of tones that you can use on any setting. The TONE control (which also works in passive mode) has been described by Richard as the “G Point” because of the ease and accuracy with which it moves from smooth and warm tones to bright and hi-fi ones, everything in a single “sensual” move.
